Small Housing Hacks for Maximising Space

Not everyone can live in four-story mansions. There are many people who live in less than 500 square feet and living in these small spaces sometimes isn’t as fun as all those Instagrammable tiny houses often featured on TV make it look.

Good building and design can certainly help your home feel bugger, work smarter and be more unique.

With small apartments and houses there are unique hurdles that make building and decorating these spaces challenging homeowners, particularly if all you want is a fresh, relaxing cosy place that can be enjoyed with family and friends.

When designing a small house, the most important question of all is, how can you make your crammed home feel comfortable, airy, and inviting?

It might sound impossible but there are ways to make your tiny space feel larger than it actually is.

  1. Go All White

To make a room look immediately bigger and brighter, you can go all white on your walls to really trick the eye for a fresh and trendy look.

  1. Ceiling Meets the Floor

One trend right now when it comes to maximizing space is floor to ceiling shelves. This is ideal in small spaces when you want to have a place to store everything to keep the clutter at bay.

  1. Multi-functional Furniture

Introduce a daybed that’s perfect for daily use for lounging and doubles as a guest bed. You can also include a C-table for your cup of coffee or your computer. Every piece of furniture in a room should have a purpose.

  1. Room Dividers

Try dividers instead of walls. This will give off the feeling of a traditional house without cutting off space. You can choose either curtains or glass panes.

  1. Under-Stair Storage

The stairs can also house roll-out cart or drawers– under-stair space is deep and tall so it’s perfect for hidden storage.

  1. Overhead Lighting

Add some overhead LED lights on some prime spots such as shelves and under kitchen cabinets.

  1. Breakfast Bar

Don’t worry if you can’t fit a dining room table. A breakfast bar is perfect if you have a window with a view.

  1. Under Bed Storage

Just like your stairs, underneath your bed can also be used as storage space. Buy some cheap bookshelves for this.

  1. Bedside Ledge

Get creative and put up a bedside ledge instead. It’s smaller than a full table but you can still put your phone and a mug of tea beside your bed.

With these tricks, you and your family can feel comfortable in your home even if it’s not a mansion. You just have to be creative and crafty to find solutions.
